Kelsi Worrell became the first American swimmer from the University of Louisville to qualify for the Olympics by swimming the 100-meter butterfly in 56.48, the second-fastest time in the world this year.
Worrell is headed to Rio after finishing first in the finals and besting Dana Vollmer, who won gold in the event at the 2012 Olympics. By finishing second, Vollmer also secured a trip to Brazil.
The 21-year-old Worrell's performance happened in front of Cardinal swim and dive coach Arthur Albiero, who is also one of the coaches of the U.S. national team.
