Ray Spalding drafted 56th overall by Philadelphia

Louisville’s Ray Spalding was selected 56th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of Thursday night’s NBA Draft. Spalding’s selection marks the sixth straight year that at least one Cardinal has heard his name called during the draft.

A graduate of Trinity High School, Spalding had a breakout junior season in 2017-18, averaging 12.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He earned honorable mention All-ACC honors for his efforts.

In April, Spalding announced on Instagram that he would be signing with an agent and keeping his name in the draft as opposed to returning to U of L and playing for new Louisville head coach Chris Mack.
