Just 30 minutes before the start of the first official practice of the 2018 season, the Louisville football team had to serve up its first bit of bad news.
Wide receiver Jaylen Smith underwent an emergency appendectomy on Friday morning, according to a statement released by U of L just before 3 p.m.
“We were fortunate to catch this early and anticipate a full recovery,” said Louisville coach Bobby Petrino. “Jaylen is doing well, and we look forward to him returning to the practice field as soon as possible.”
Smith was the lone Cardinal named to the preseason All-ACC Team last month.
