Every year across all of college football, including the Louisville football program, players are named starters for season openers for a number of reasons. They may be returning starters, beat out another player at their position during fall camp, or stepped into the role due to injury. Whatever the reason is, it doesn’t mean that they’ll be considered “a one” for the full season.
This season for Louisville and new head coach Scott Satterfield, nearly every single starting spot is up for grabs.
While a handful of players returning in 2019 either started at a position last season, or where the “next up” after a guy left, or maybe even are the “presumed” starter, all 22 guys on offense and defense will have to earn their keep.
