When you hear “Pitino-coached team,” your mind immediately goes to thoughts of full court pressure, tons of forced turnovers and even more attempted three-pointers. That’s not the case at all with Richard Pitino’s Minnesota Golden Gophers.
The makeup of Minnesota might be more “old school” than any other team in the field of 68. They play at an average pace (176th in D-I), they don’t force many turnovers (284th in defensive turnover percentage), and they get a smaller amount of their scoring from the three-point shot (22.2 percent) than all but three of the 353 teams in Division-I.
