By Kyeland Jackson —

U of L’s board of trustees finance committee has refused to grant a five percent tuition hike requested by administration in the 20916-2017 budget.

The proposal anticipated cuts of $12.5 million from higher education, mandated by Governor Matt Bevin. The increase, if approved, would have offset the state cut. To fund this reduction administrators proposed a five percent tuition increase and a two percent housing increase. Students would have paid upwards of $1,200 more depending on academic and residency status.
