By Micah Brown —
Head coach David Padgett earned his first vicotry as a division one coach as 16th-ranked basketball opened the 2017-2018 season with a 72-61 victory against the George Mason Patriots. The win did not come easy for the Cards. They struggled against George Mason, who led Louisville 27-24 at halftime.
Besides the fact George Mason had one starter taller than 6-foot-4, Louisville failed to take advantage of the massive height advantage they possessed against the Patriots, out-rebounding them at just 36-31 and giving up many open looks in the paint.
