MONROE, La. – Daishon Smith faced a family tragedy this week and used his basketball gifts to pay tribute the most appropriate way he knew how.
"My little brother on my dad's side passed on Tuesday," Smith revealed publicly Friday after scoring 38 points in ULM's 88-79 win over Georgia Southern. "He actually was killed. I just wanted to come out here and play for him."
Marquese Smith had just turned 17 in January. He was in "the wrong place with the wrong crowd," his brother said.
"My little sister told me not to hang my head," Smith said.
