MONROE, La. – Fresh off of helping lead ULM to a season-opening victory over Southern on Saturday night, Warhawk sophomore quarterback Garrett Smith has been named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Offensive Player of the Week, selected by a panel of Louisiana Sports Writers Association members on Monday in the first voting for statewide players of the week for the 2016 season.
Smith amassed 358 combined yards on Saturday night to lead ULM over Southern in head coach Matt Viator’s first game in Monroe, as he hurt Southern through the air and the ground Saturday night, finishing with 208 yards passing and a pair of touchdowns while also leading the Warhawks in rushing with a 150-yard running night and a touchdown.
