OAHU, Hawaii – ULM’s top-pair consisting of juniors Hope Pawlik and Taylor Zaeske advanced to the second round of the pairs competition Thursday in the Aloha Invitational at Queen’s Beach.
The duo beat Washington’s top pair, sophomores Crissy Jones and Tia Scambray, in straight sets 21-19, 21-17. Pawlik and Zaeske then played the top pair on the No. 1 team in the country in USC. Their opponents, juniors Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes, had won 56 straight matches up to that point.
The Warhawks’ top pair made a valiant effort and fell 21-16, 21-17, which was a 19-point improvement from their first matchup against the nation’s top pair at the Cowtown Classic, a 21-8, 21-6 defeat.
