Ilunga Mbuyi Named LSWA Field Athlete of the Year

BATON ROUGE, La. -- ULM's Eunice Ilunga Mbuyi was voted 2024 Louisiana Sports Writers Association Field Athlete of the Year following a statewide vote of media and sports information directors.

Ilunga Mbuyi earned All-American honors in the triple jump after a seventh-place finish in the NCAA championships with a season-best leap of 13.50 meters (44-3 feet). That mark from ULM's first female All-American in over 30 years was the highest out of any athlete in the state of Louisiana, and she captured her third-consecutive triple jump crown at the Sun Belt Championships. Ilunga Mbuyi posted the second-highest long jump mark in Louisiana with a 20-6.
