MONROE, La. – Quarterback Steven Jyles wasted little time making himself a fixture in the ULM starting lineup.
On Sept. 21, 2002, Jyles took over as the first-team quarterback in just the fourth game of his college career in Monroe. At that time, he became the first true freshman to start for ULM since Joe Lawrence in 1977, and he matured quickly. During his debut season, Jyles passed for 2,318 yards and 17 touchdowns and broke a school-record streak of 164 passes without an interception.
A mainstay at quarterback for four seasons, Jyles became one of the most productive players in school history with 10,234 yards of total offense, 8,987 passing yards and 55 touchdowns.
