NEW ORLEANS – After an impressive performance last week at the Pepsi Florida Relays, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns freshman Hannes Burger was named on Wednesday as the Sun Belt Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week in a release by the league office.
Burger, making his 2019 debut in the men's 1,500 meters, finished 15th overall in the event after crossing the finish line in 3 minutes, 50.30 seconds and recording the fourth-fastest time in school history and the best time in the Sun Belt Conference this season.
The weekly award for Burger, a two-time champion at the Sun Belt Indoor meet in February and ranked second in the league in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, was the first of his career and the fifth by a Ragin' Cajuns athlete this year joining Kyle Baudoin (3/20), Dominique Williams (2/13), Kimmie Rushford (1/30) and Juliette Smith (1/23).
