LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Department of Athletics announced on Monday that it has filled its 2018 non-conference football schedule as it will open the season against in-state opponent Grambling at Cajun Field.
The game between Louisiana and Grambling, a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, will be the first-ever meeting between the schools on the gridiron and is scheduled for Sept. 1, 2018. The Ragin' Cajuns will host New Mexico State (date TBD) in non-conference play in 2018, while also traveling to face SEC members Alabama (Sept. 29) and Mississippi State (Nov. 3).
Since 2011, Louisiana has hosted at least one in-state opponent in non-conference play at Cajun Field beginning with Nicholls State (2011 and 2013) and including Tulane (2012), Southern (2014), Louisiana Tech (2014), Northwestern State (2015) and McNeese State (2016).
