STATESBORO, Ga. – Mike Hughes scored six of his game-high 20 points in a 45-second span late in the second half to erase a late deficit and help Georgia Southern earn a 74-70 victory over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in a Sun Belt Conference men's basketball game on Monday at Hanner Fieldhouse.
Ike Smith scored 18 points and Tookie Brown 11 as Georgia Southern (16-8, 9-2 SBC) built a 15-point lead in the first half before Louisiana (14-10, 4-7 SBC) used a 15-2 run over the final 2:24 to close to within 40-38 at halftime.
Louisiana kept up its momentum, opening the second half with a 3-pointer by Jay Wright and a three-point play by Bryce Washington that gave the Ragin' Cajuns a 44-40 lead with 17:53 remaining.
