WR Ross sets record in the 40 at NFL combine

INDIANAPOLIS • The day belonged to Washington wide receiver John Ross, and it took just a little over four seconds to do so.

Everyone at the NFL Scouting Combine knew Ross was one of the fastest players in attendance. That was before he blazed through the 40-yard dash in a mere 4.22 seconds Saturday. There was an audible gasp as Ross’ time was flashed on television in the media workroom.

It was a combine record, breaking the previous mark of 4.24 seconds set by running back Chris Johnson in 2008.

A day earlier at his media session, Ross fell short of predicting a new record but he did foreshadow what was to come.
