Games like this don’t come around every week, or every year for that matter, and Kansas City has been planning accordingly.
A few Thursdays ago, the Chiefs sent out helicopters over the Arrowhead Stadium area to videotape and study traffic patterns during the afternoon and early evening hours. Parking is always an adventure there, and with the team expecting 24,000 vehicles cramming their way onto the stadium parking lot on a weekday, extreme measures will be taken.
Namely, opening the lots at noon Thursday, roughly 7½ hours before the 7:25 p.m. kickoff against rival Oakland.
With the temperature potentially falling into the teens before the game’s conclusion, hot chocolate, coffee, soup and chili will be made available at 40 stadium locations.
