Al Michaels has been the lead play-by-play voice of the lead sport in the United States for more than 3½ decades, a remarkable feat of not only endurance but sportscasting excellence.
But will the marathon end with the Super Bowl on Sunday?
First for Michaels was a 20-season run on "Monday Night Football," from 1986-2005. That's when "MNF" was the must-see game of the week, airing on ABC as the rich history linked to Frank Gifford, Howard Cosell and Don Meredith continued. But Mondays lost oomph when the games were shuffled to cable (ESPN) in 2006, the same year "Sunday Night Football" moved to NBC from ESPN.
