There were several reasons why coach Jeff Fisher's fake-punt decision didn't make much sense in Sunday's 30-19 loss to Buffalo.
For one, the Los Angeles defense had tightened up considerably in the second half after getting gouged for 238 yards and 16 points in the first half at LA Memorial Coliseum. Buffalo had gained only 45 yards and one first down in the second half when the Rams lined up in punt formation with 3 minutes 47 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
(A second first down had come on a roughing-the-punter penalty against Rams rookie linebacker Josh Forrest.
