Thomas: Some highs (Carolina) and lows (Chicago) from NFL draft

The 2017 NFL draft was long on trades and heavy on defensive backs. For the most part, teams stayed away from offensive tackles but not players with off-the-field issues. It was no surprise that teams reached for quarterbacks, but a little surprising to see them do the same with wide receivers. Along the way, a few teams stood out in a good way for their work over three days. And a couple did not.

THUMBS UP

Carolina: Mike Shula’s creativity will be tested this season as the Panthers’ offensive coordinator. That’s a good problem to have.
