ARLINGTON, Texas • As he stood outside the Dallas locker room Sunday afternoon, his Cowboys having just posted a franchise-record ninth straight victory, Jerry Jones confessed. Not even he expected running Ezekiel Elliott to be this good, this fast.
“No, I can now look back, roll it back and add up logically why he is being productive,” Jones said. “But we didn’t see that.”
Strange as it now sounds, the Cowboys’ owner thought drafting Elliott would be a pick for the Dallas defense. Someone who could help with time of possession, keep what had been a so-so defensive unit off the field.
