The Los Angeles Rams made another change at kicker this offseason by drafting Stanford’s Joshua Karty as an answer to 2023’s kicking woes divided between Brett Maher and Lucas Havrisik. One would then hope that Karty is the last kicker that the Rams will need to add on the roster for the rest of the year—despite some calls to sign the UFL’s biggest star—and that he will be valuable on both field goal duties and kickoff duties.
However, at least one special teams coaching legend isn’t convinced that kickers are the best options to do kickoffs under the NFL’s new rules.
