Despite going in a different direction with Blake Bortles as the new backup to Jared Goff for the 2019 season, the Los Angeles Rams were still interested to see where Sean Mannion could end up in free agency.
As much as the Rams would have loved to see Mannion return for another year with the team, Bortles is way more experienced, and came at a steal price wise thanks to the Jacksonville Jaguars releasing the former first-round pick after signing Nick Foles.
Plus, it seemed like early on that some teams would be interested in Mannion due to the fact that he’s spent the last two years developing under Sean McVay, meaning Los Angeles most likely felt they would be outbid by another team willing to offer him more money.
