Roman Gabriel, the 1969 AP MVP and the Rams’ all-time leader in touchdown passes and passing attempts, died at age 83 on Saturday according to his son Roman Gabriel III and confirmed by his alma mater at NC State.

Gabriel was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1989 and NC State wrote the following about his career with the Wolfpack:
Gabriel, who was inducted into the inaugural class of the NC State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012, was the ACC Player of the Yer in 1960 and ‘61, setting 22 school and nine ACC records during his career.
