The NFL has had a St. Louis-based team in 49 seasons, producing a grand total of one league champion. The NHL has been in the market even longer, 55 years — also generating just a single champ.

Thomas is retiring on May 5 after 48 years on the job, the last six as the paper’s lead Blues beat writer.
