Redskins release wide receiver Andre Roberts (The Associated Press)

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- The Washington Redskins have released wide receiver Andre Roberts and signed undrafted free agent cornerback Mariel Cooper.

Roberts was a highly-touted free agent signing during the 2014 offseason but lost his job as slot receiver last season to rookie Jamison Crowder. The 28-year-old started only four games in two seasons with the Redskins, making 47 catches for 588 yards and two touchdowns.

The Redskins' selection of TCU's Josh Doctson in the first round of the draft pushed Roberts further down the depth chart. His release saves significant salary-cap space for Washington.
