Don Ohlmeyer was a big-time television executive, in charge of big-time productions, and as such expected the best.
He was the executive producer of “Monday Night Football” when it was at its peak in the 1970s, then came back for the 2000 season and brought in comedian Dennis Miller as a commentator. “Media Views” covered the show’s visit to St. Louis in November of that season, and news of Ohlmeyer’s death last weekend, of cancer at age 72, brought back memories of what he said was a miserable experience on that trip to town.
The “MNF” crew booked about 20 rooms at the Ritz-Carlton in Clayton to serve as its base, but afterward an irate Ohlmeyer said the group never would stay there again as long as he was running the show.
