A former first-round pick of the Jets in the 2012 draft, Coples has registered 16.5 sacks over the four years of his career. Coples started 30 games in his first three seasons, recording 5.5 sacks as a rookie, 4.5 sacks in 2013, and 6.5 sacks in 2014. He mainly played as an outside linebacker in the Jets’ 3-4 scheme, but also played some at 3-4 defensive end.
New York cut Coples in November, and Miami subsequently claimed him. Coples appeared in six games for the Dolphins before the club released him in February.
With his pass-rushing ability, Coples will likely factor into the Rams’ rotation at defensive end alongside Robert Quinn and Eugene Sims.
