Rams Rewind: More than gimmicks needed to get offense back on track

Interim head coach John Fassel didn't try every trick play in his book. Just most of them in Sunday's season finale against Arizona.

There was the wide receiver pass from Pharoh Cooper, woefully underthrown and intercepted by Arizona's Harlan Miller. That wrecked a prime second-quarter scoring opportunity after a Rams takeaway had given them a first down at the Arizona 29.

Then there was that direct-snap to wide receiver Tavon Austin later in the second quarter. Austin lined up behind quarterback Jared Goff in the backfield. Goff moved down the line of scrimmage to his right as if barking out directions to his lineman.
