Now coaching the defensive backs for the Buffalo Bills, Tim McDonald was selected in the second round of the 1987 NFL draft by the St. Louis football Cardinals. He played just one season here and that was limited to three games due to a fractured left ankle suffered in the preseason.
Following the 1987 campaign, Big Red owner Bill Bidwill moved the franchise to Tempe, Ariz. McDonald, a strong safety, played from 1987-92 with the Cardinals and from 1993-99 with the San Francisco 49ers. He was named to the Pro Bowl six times, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 1989 and second-team recognition five other seasons.
