Rams keep WR Austin on restructured contract

LOS ANGELES -- Tavon Austin, long expected to be traded or released before the end of the week, is returning to the Los Angeles Rams with a restructured contract.

Austin's contract is now basically a one-year, $5 million deal worth up to an additional $3 million in incentives, allowing him to be a free agent at season's end.

Under his original deal, which dates back to the four-year, $42 million extension he signed weeks before the start of the 2016 season, the Rams were on the hook for $5 million and would have saved the additional $3 million by cutting him before Friday, with no dead money tied to his deal for the following three years.
