Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Rams have placed their franchise tag on CB Trumaine Johnson for the second straight season.
The franchise tag will run the Rams around $16.8 million fully guaranteed for the 2017 season, but won’t prevent them from negotiating a long-term contract before the July deadline to discuss long-term deals with franchise players.
Because Johnson receives a 20 percent increase on top of the franchise tag figure, he’ll now be the highest paid cornerback in the NFL.
Johnson, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Rams back in 2012.
