SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Star defensive tackle Aaron Donald was ejected in the late stages of what had already been an ugly night by his Los Angeles Rams for unnecessary roughness and then making contact with an official.
Donald grabbed the helmet of San Francisco 49ers receiver Quinton Patton and promptly yanked it off, sparking the sequence that led to the ejection in the fourth quarter of the Rams' 28-0 loss.
Donald then slammed his helmet to the ground as he walked off the field.
Four plays later, the 49ers took a 28-0 lead on a 1-yard run by Carlos Hyde.
