With the latest collective bargaining agreement, NFL teams’ offseason programs run nine weeks and go through three phases. The first phase runs two weeks, and teams may work on only strength, conditioning, and physical rehabilitation on the field.
The second phase goes three weeks. During this period, teams may conduct on-field individual instruction and drills, as well as full, separate practices with the offense and defense. However, the team may not practice “live,” or conduct team offense vs. team defense drills.
Finally, the third phase runs four weeks where teams may hold up to 10 OTAs. While there may not be contact, teams can run 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills in practice.
