The excitement of back-to-back fourth quarter go-ahead touchdowns by players wearing Rams jerseys has made for an exciting 2024 preseason, at least within the confines of that context. But the memories will fade just as quickly as L.A.’s three preseason losses in 2023, in which the players wearing the jerseys by a combined score of 109-34. We used to say that “preseason doesn’t matter” because the result doesn’t end up in the team’s final record and has no impact on their playoff hopes.
Now it’s more because the players wearing the jerseys are often not going to make the team and it can even be a little abstract to consider what it is we are watching in the preseason: “I know those jerseys, I know this stadium, I recognize some of these names, but this is not representative of the team we’ll see in Week 1 or Week 18 or even next year’s Week 1.
