McClellan: Lawsuit means stadium plan is finished

For those of us who hate to see local football fans suffer, Thursday was a disappointing day. I was hoping Judge David Dowd would take the fans off life support.

He was supposed to hear arguments about the lawsuit filed by the board that runs the Edward Jones Dome in which the board contends that city voters need not have a say about public money going for a new stadium. In 2002, city voters passed an ordinance requiring a public vote before public money be used for a new stadium.

Before Judge Dowd could hear any arguments, six state legislators filed a lawsuit that would block the issuance of state revenue bonds for a new stadium.
