When veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford asked the Detroit Lions to be traded, he was a bit particular about which team he would be willing to go to. As many as a dozen teams made offers to the Lions, but it was the LA Rams offer of a starting playoff-caliber quarterback, a 2021 fourth-round pick, a 2022 first-round pick, and a 2023 first-round pick, that eventually succeeded.
The LA Rams had their quarterback, and the Detroit Lions had plenty of building blocks to construct a new younger roster.
It wasn’t until September 2021 that NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport reported that Stafford had a far more active hand in determining which team he would be willing to accept as his destination.
