In the lead up to a dinner launching his foundation, Chris Long said he envisioned an intimate, informative event where individuals would have the opportunity to learn about the Waterboys Initiative and figure out ways they can help.
What transpired the night of May 20 at Morton’s the Steakhouse in Clayton far and away exceeded the defensive end’s expectations. In all, the event raised $169,000 -- including a $45,000 personal contribution from Long -- with proceeds going to the charity that will build clean-water wells in small communities in East Africa.
In addition to dinner, drinks, and two auctions -- live and silent -- the 110 attendees were treated to a presentation by Long in which he outlined why the Waterboys Initiative is important to him.
