LA Rams head coach Sean McVay has a long history and familiarity with the West Coast Offense (WCO) family. His grandfather helped Bill Walsh build the San Francisco juggernaut of yesteryear. McVay brought his version to the LA Rams after coaching under Jay Gruden.
In 2008, McVay coached receivers under former Washington Redskins’ head coach Jon Gruden in Tampa Bay. McVay made the jump from the 49ers’ version to the Green Bay version of the WCO. Currently, it makes sense to say that the Rams are moving into a newer modernized version emphasizing the passing game even further, or the Spread Coast offense.
