Right now there’s a large plot of land in the famed “City of Champions” clearly visible to anyone flying into LAX. Trucks instead of horses circle the site of the former Hollywood Park Racetrack, preparing for what will be a state-of-the-art, world-class stadium — and Home of the Los Angeles Rams — currently slated to open in 2019.
While work has been ongoing, any good development project needs a groundbreaking ceremony. And that’s exactly what happened on Thursday with team owner E. Stanley Kroenke, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, and Inglewood mayor James T. Butts headlining the celebration. Hall of Famers Jack Youngblood, Eric Dickerson, and Tom Mack were also in attendance, as was the legendary Rosy Grier and current players Aaron Donald and Johnny Hekker.
