John Johnson adds interesting twist to Rams young safety group

On Thursday afternoon, the Los Angeles Rams brought back a familiar face when they re-signed safety John Johnson III for the 2024 season.

It was uncertain whether or not Johnson would be back at earlier points this offseason. The Rams signed Kam Curl in free agency and also drafted Kam Kinchens in the third-round of the NFL Draft. With the continued development of Quentin Lake and Russ Yeast, it didn’t seem like there was a spot for Johnson. There didn’t seem to be the need for another safety.

Heading into the summer break, head coach Sean McVay specifically said that he didn't foresee many signing before training camp like last year.
