One of the biggest narratives surrounding quarterback Matthew Stafford before he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams was that the Detroit Lions rarely put a good team and situation around him. Stafford simply wasn’t always set up for success with the Lions due to the pieces around him.
If it’s one thing that the Stafford trade emphasized was that quarterback situation in the NFL matters. Of course the overall talent of the player has an effect, but a quarterback is also heavily dependent on their offensive line, play-makers, and offensive infrastructure around them.
