Jiminy Christmas, “Hanny” was fun to listen to on the radio.
Jim Hanifan, who died this week at 87, had an illustrious career as a football coach, notably as one of the most renowned mentors of offensive linemen in NFL history. But other than a brief stint as the football Cardinals’ head coach, he worked mostly in the background and his larger-than-life personality did not regularly come to the public forefront.
That all changed after his coaching days, when he made a huge splash in his short run as a commentator in the Rams’ radio booth by being refreshingly outspoken and fearlessly candid about the hometown team.
