Bob Firtos never thought it possible back in the days when they rode the bench as freshmen on the Granite City South High basketball team.
But then came “career day” a few years later, in the spring of senior year. His best friend and former basketball bench warmer, Kevin Greene, didn’t even go to the event — much less talk to anyone about a career.
“I’m gonna be a pro football player, and there’s nobody in there for pro football,” Greene told Firtos.
At the time, Greene was a 180-pound defensive end whose highest acclaim had been receiving honorable mention on the all-conference team.
