It’s been four years since Trishton Jackson was so impressive in his first training camp with the Los Angeles Rams that he actually made the final 53-man roster as an undrafted rookie. But even players like Jackson who defy the odds to make an NFL roster after going undrafted almost always become career special teamers, journeymen, practice squad players, or at best role players. Yes, there are the few special undrafted stars who stand out such as Kurt Warner, but for the most part even the success stories are short-lived.
Trishton Jackson could be the rarest of the rare cases: An undrafted player who went four years in between making a team’s final roster and who is now on the brink of starting for the Minnesota Vikings if Kevin O’Connell needs to dip into his receiver reserves at any point.
