Former Mizzou teammates square off in Super Bowl 50

SAN FRANCISCO • So here it was Thursday of Super Bowl week, three days before the big game, at the Carolina media session.

And what were the topics of conversation with Carolina defensive end Kony Ealy? Chasing Peyton Manning? Playing on the same team as Cam Newton?

Not exactly. Try cowboy boots and St. Louis.

Ealy grew up on the south side of the city, in the area of Roosevelt High School. He moved to New Madrid County in the Missouri Bootheel as a seventh grader, but he’s St. Louis through and through.

Floyd Irons, the former basketball coaching legend from Vashon High, is his cousin.
