Consensus among regional leaders: St. Louis is done with professional football

ST. LOUIS • Regional officials, stunned by the impending departure of the St. Louis Rams, prepared on Wednesday for life without the National Football League. They contemplated legal options, debt payments on the city’s old stadium, and even the loss of the giant “Edward Jones” logo across its top.

And at least some consensus emerged: St. Louis is done with professional football.

Mayor Francis Slay said the city’s dealings with the league should be a warning to other local governments across the nation.

“They were not being truthful,” Slay said from his office lobby at City Hall.
