Years ago, while riding officials from the sidelines, coach Jerry Glanville coined a now-famous phrase, “This is the NFL, which stands for Not For Long ...”
Boy, can St. Louis relate.
Over the past 28 years, the town has seen two NFL franchises depart. The Rams were the latest to go, burning 21 St. Louis seasons behind them and heading back to Los Angeles, from which they came. The Rams won St. Louis’ only NFL championship in 1999-2000.
But the “Football Cardinals” still represent the genuine article, the original NFL team in town and for many the most beloved.
