What better way to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Rams' relocation than a reminder that pure greed remains the lifeblood of the National Football League?

There is no other legitimate reason for the Chargers to leave San Diego after 56 years and join the Rams in Los Angeles.

But because Chargers owner Dean Spanos never found the public money he deemed necessary to build a new stadium in San Diego, he plans to bypass the $300 million the league was willing to spend on a San Diego solution, pay the early termination penalty on his current stadium lease and fork over a jaw-dropping relocation fee (up to $650 million) in order to become the tenant of a man he has clashed with in the past (Rams owner Stan Kroenke) in a city that is at best indifferent about the Chargers' arrival.
