SAN FRANCISCO _ Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Rams in 2010, safety Darian Stewart has always been a hard-hitter. He played 53 games over four seasons in St. Louis, and started 19 times.
But soft tissue injuries _ muscle pulls, strains, etc. _ especially in training camp, derailed Stewart in St. Louis once coach Jeff Fisher came to town. When Stewart became eligible for free agency following the 2013 season, the club displayed little to no interest in retaining him.
He spent 2014 in Baltimore, and then popped up on Denver's roster this season.
